Sagicor High Performance Centre recovered very well after an early batting collapse on way to a 117-run win over Bangladesh A in the first one-day match. Andre Russell’s blazing unbeaten 132 ensured a big total for the home side, after which the visitors crumbled to spin.Choosing to bat, HPC fell to 49 for 4 in the 15th over but Leon Johnson and Chadwick Walton smoothened the innings with a 91-run fifth wicket stand. The pair got fifties but they departed by the 37th over to leave Sagicor on 163 for 6.Russell then singlehandedly took apart the Bangladesh A attack, hammering 132 off just 56 balls with 13 sixes and seven fours. He got to his fifty off 35 balls and the second off only 12 balls. He added 95 runs for the eighth wicket with Ashley Nurse, whose contribution was 14, as Sagicor posted 327 for 9.Nurse’s offbreak then broke the Bangladesh A middle-order as he picked up three wickets. Carlos Brathwaite also went away with three wickets while Nikita Miller had two.Bangladesh A only had Shuvagata Hom scoring a half-century as the rest hardly made a dent in the chase. The second one-dayer is on Tuesday in Lucas Street, Barbados.
