Fernandes has been United's key player for a number of seasons now and the Red Devils would be reluctant to let him depart for anything other than a major fee – one that Saudi Arabian clubs could potentially stump up. Despite the Red Devils' stuttering performances on the pitch, Fernandes has been one of the few consistent bright sparks and few sides across the world would not improve with his addition. The 30-year-old is not ready to follow his national team's captain to the Middle East just yet.

Ronaldo's influence at Al-Nassr is undeniable and following his contract extension at the club, he has been granted more power and influence to bring in players of his choosing. After failing to strike up an immediate relationship with Ronaldo and despite his major money switch from Aston Villa, Jhon Duran was allowed to leave the club after just six months. Chelsea and Portugal forward Joao Felix was brought in as Duran's replacement and Ronaldo wanted Fernandes to create a Portuguese trifecta in the Al-Nassr attack – but with little success.
