After such a successful season out on loan, it’s understandable why Rangers are keen on bringing Ryan Kent back to Glasgow (Steven Gerrard’s comments sourced in the Scotsman allude to that), but Liverpool’s stance makes even more sense.
With Sadio Mane, Harry Wilson and Divock Origi already at the club, it could be difficult for the 22-year-old winger to break into the Liverpool squad next season, let alone the first-team, and with the latest news from Daniel Currie on Twitter claiming that the Champions League winners are not willing to send Kent out on loan for the fourth time, the club seems to know what’s best for the young attacker.
Kent is at the stage of his career where he is need of a permanent home (quotes sourced by Goal back in May hint at his desire to settle down somewhere) after three seasons of first-team football, and with the aforementioned names way ahead of the winger in the pecking order at Liverpool, claiming a spot there could be difficult, even if Currie suggests the Reds will give him a chance.
But Kent surely won’t be short of suitors after the season he had at Rangers, where the youngster was named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year after his best season in the professional game, which is understandable as to why the Gers, as well as Aston Villa, are interested in the winger according to Football Insider.
So, if Liverpool can raise funds for him over the course of the summer, it’s hard to argue with their logic here.
Liverpool fans, will the club regret selling Kent this summer? Let us know!
