In what is sure to be a typically frenetic day in the football calendar, Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has arrived in Turin and is undergoing a medical with the Italian champions Juventus, according to Sky Sports.
Bendtner, 24, spent last season on loan at Sunderland after failing to break into the first team at Arsenal. It is thought that Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger has told the Danish international that he can leave to find a new club as he is well down the pecking order at the Emirates.
The fee for Bendtner is unknown at this stage, although reports have suggested that the striker will cost Juventus around £5 million.
Juventus sporting director Beppe Marotta said this morning: “Bendtner is already in Italy and will undergo a medical.” Marotta believes that if the Italian champions can convince Bendtner to join, they will have signed a potentially “great” player: “He has talent and ability… one that has almost never been able to prove it.”
Reportedly, Bendtner has already caused a stir at his seemingly new club by requesting to wear the famous number 10 shirt that has been retired in honour of the legendary Alessandro Del Piero.
Marotta has admitted that Bendtner is not their first choice attacking option after failing to agree terms with the dogmatic Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian was also on the verge of joining Italian rivals Fiorentina at one point, but now looks most likely to stay in England and join Fulham. As a result of Berbatov’s snub to join Serie A, Marotta labelled the Bulgarian as “unprofessional” for letting the Italian giants down at such a late stage in the transfer window.
