Everton boss Marco Silva has said that Ademola Lookman will soon earn a spot in his first XI, and that could happen in Sunday’s Merseyside derby with Liverpool.
What did he say?
Silva addressed the media on Friday ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool, which is promising to be a fascinating affair.
Lookman struggled for minutes in the opening weeks of the 2018-19 campaign, having been denied the chance to join RB Leipzig on a permanent deal during the summer.
The 21-year-old has been involved in each of Everton’s last five Premier League matches though, and might well be in line for a start against Liverpool.
The Liverpool Echo quotes Silva as saying:
“He’s doing more than enough to play in our starting XI and when I take that decision, it is well deserved. He’s doing a fantastic job every day here at Finch Farm and afterwards it reflects on the matches as well.
“I know what he wants, that his desire is to play more minutes and start matches as well. His time will come, I don’t have doubts about that.
“This is the Lookman I told you all about from my first moment, this was my expectation about his quality and his talent.”
It has been suggested that Lookman could be given the nod over Theo Walcott, but Bernard’s position will also be under threat by the Englishman.
What Silva’s words mean
Lookman has not started a single Premier League match for Everton this season, and it would therefore be some story if he was thrown in against Liverpool.
It would be fair to say that the former Charlton Athletic youngster has not had the best of times at Everton since his arrival in 2017.

Lookman showed his quality at Leipzig last term, however, and Silva has revealed that the attacker is just starting to make a positive impact at Goodison Park.
Silva has not been afraid to make big decisions this season, and throwing a confident and extremely talented Lookman in against Liverpool could be a genius move by the Portuguese.
