According to a report in The Times by Paul Joyce and Matt Lawton, Everton are “on the brink” of bringing David Moyes back to the club as manager.
The report says that it isn’t clear whether the 56-year-old, who left the Toffees in 2013 for Manchester United, will initially be appointed on an interim basis with a view to the role becoming permanent if the Merseyside outfit improve, or whether he will be given a longer contract on a full-time basis straightaway.
The Times says that majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri decided to prepare an offer for the Scot after Vitor Pereira pulled out of the running to replace Marco Silva on Tuesday, and could well yet decide to make Moyes’ appointment short-term and continue to pursue a leading European coach.
One potential target in Carlo Ancelotti was sacked by Napoli on Tuesday night despite their progress into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Moyes has been out of work since leaving West Ham United at the end of the 2017/18 campaign, when he was replaced by Manuel Pellegrini despite leading the east London side to Premier League safety.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
If he does get the job, his first match in charge will be against former employers Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In other Everton news, Toffees fans have urged the club to sign one 6 ft 3 centre-back, with one supporter suggeting “him and Mina could be a CB pairing for years”…
