Dempsey is part of a number of voices criticizing the team for their lackluster performances over the break. Landon Donovan, Alexi Lalas and others have all shared their disappointment with the perceived lack of fight around the group following back-to-back losses to Panama and Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League.
WHAT DEMPSEY SAID
"No matter how you looked at it, it was going to be a failure. but you'd hope that they would get up for this game, that there would be more pride to try to get things back on track and get this fan base behind them," he said on CBS after the loss to Canada. "As we were sitting here, I had some of the [fans] sitting there, shouting to me 'Get them right, say something' and I said 'Hey y'all let them know, let them know what's going on.' We need to fight for you all, we gotta do this together.
"Things are not good right now, everybody's starting to turn on each other a little bit… when I was on the field, I gave you everything I had."
