Ederson is a Brazil international and is central to the Serie A side's tactical approach, making 44 appearances in all competitions and scoring five goals in all competitions. Retegui, by comparison, has been on fire, and has scored 23 league goals in 31 games while also providing nine assists. The latter only arrived at Atalanta in the summer, joining from Genoa in a €28 million (£24m/$32m) deal, so the Serie A club are almost guaranteed to turn a significant profit if United formalise their interest.

Ederson has also been linked with Manchester City, and Atalanta are facing up to the prospect of losing more than one first-team star this summer, as Ademola Lookman has also been linked away. Liverpool are reported to be interested in the winger.
